The Debra Cole Comedy Show: A Southern Woman Dares to Speak Her Mind Using a Microphone!

Debra Cole, comedienne, writer, former schoolteacher, southern smartass, and Atlanta’s “foremost political comic,” will begin her weekly knee slapping, belly aching series, The Debra Cole Comedy Show, at the Ansley Park Playhouse. Her show has been a monthly affair for the past year, but will now run each Saturday night from October until March 31, 2012 at the home of the famous play Peachtree Battle.

Along with Debra’s wry sophisticated humor spoken with an authentic Southern Georgia twang, there will be musical guests, interviews, and the best touring comics. Audience members will enjoy Lopez Tonight Guest Jarrod Harris, Dan Mengini, Drew Thomas, Joe Zimmerman, Darryl Rhoades from the movie Crazy Heart, and many others. The female troupe Mixed Nuts, including humor columnist, best-selling author, NPR Commentator and Tonight Show Guest Hollis Gillespie, will kick off the season October 22, 2011. The monthly series will conclude with the September 24th show, featuring the group Short Bus Heroes, with Jamie Bendall, Comic and CEO of The Punchline Comedy Club of Atlanta.

Debra Cole is a staple in the Atlanta Comedy scene. Never the class clown but the quiet observer with a left-hook delivery, she began her stage life after friends persuaded her to give it a try. You may have seen her at the Laughing Skull Lounge, Eddie’s Attic, The Punchline, The Funny Farm, Kat’s Café, Aurora Theatre, Buford Variety Theatre, Laugh Your Asheville Off Festival, or at charity and corporate events. In her unique act she covers motherhood, relationships, public school, bad customer service, and politics. Debra left her teaching career behind in June 2008. Many folks thought she would drop out of the comedy world after the birth of her daughter in February 2010. However, neither the challenges of motherhood, the recession, a divorce, nor the rise of the Tea Party could keep her down.

Vicki Lock says, “Debra is so stinking funny.” Juror #12 says, “She has a wit like a barber strap.” And the Fulton County Magistrate says, “Debra is Twice Divorced!” You don’t want to miss this rising star! You can check her website for tickets and schedule at, or go to Also check out her blog at
