Atlanta’s nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre will present the Tony Award® winning play God of Carnage beginning on January 11 through January 29, 2012. God of Carnage is one of the most lauded plays of the decade having won the 2009 Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Direction, Best Actress in a Play (Marcia Gay Harden) and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.
The play follows two pairs of parents as they come together after a violent playground episode between their sons. They meet to discuss the situation in a civilized manner, but as the evening progresses, things become not so civilized. From the playwright that brought Atlanta the unforgettable play Art comes a no-holds-barred new play with a worldwide pedigree – and a universal question – What pushes you over the edge?
God of Carnage is written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton. The Alliance production will be directed by Kent Gash, former Alliance Theatre Associate Artistic Director.
The cast for God of Carnage includes Jasmine Guy as Veronica Novak, Keith Randolph Smith as Michael Novak, Crystal Fox as Annette Raleigh, and Geoffrey Darnell Williams as Alan Raleigh. The production represents the first time God of Carnage will be performed by an all African American cast.
