Based on the children’s book by Calvin Alexander Ramsey, Ruth and the Green Book plays at the Center For Puppetry Arts through February 26, 2012.

The show follows an African-American family as they travel from Chicago to the Alabama during the Jim Crow era in the 1950’s. Told through the eyes of Ruth, the story details the struggles of family during the trip as well as their introduction to The Green Book, a travel guide for African-Americans.

On December 10 The Center for Puppetry Arts hosted dignitaries and VIP guests, including Congressman John Lewis, for a special reception following the performance. During the reception guests were able to purchase the book and get it signed by Ramsey. View photos from reception as well as watch video interviews with Congressman John Lewis, Tara Lake, who plays Ruth, Val Bates and Vincent Anthony.
