When Les Misérables’ 25th Anniversary Tour hits the Fox Theatre stage on April 24, it will be another homecoming for one of Georgia’s actors, Lauren Wiley.
A Savannah native, Wiley has lived in Marietta and attended Mercer University and the University of Alabama. Returning to Atlanta not only offers a chance for her to reconnect with family and friends, but it also gives her an opportunity to finally perform on the stage where it all began for her.
“My first show was Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Fox Theatre on an eighth grade field trip. I fell in love with theater at the Fox,” Wiley explains. “This is my first time performing at the Fox. It is going to special to me.”
While the tour is in Atlanta, family and friends will have the ability to see the show, making the tour stop more wonderful for her. “I have family and friends coming to see me, which will be lovely,” she says. “My mother is coming to see the show for the first time.”
It is also her first touring experience, which she is enjoying. “Some people are more built for touring, and I feel that I am one of those people. Being on the road provides an amazing chance to see the country,” Wiley mentions. As someone who enjoys traveling, the down time during a run allows her to explore each city. “
For Wiley, the chance to be on the Fox Theatre’s stage is only another career highlight. She has already had two of her dreams come true for her.
“I have been with the show about a month. It is a dream come true for me. It is the best show that I have done,” she says. “Before that I was performing at Disney World, which is another dream come true.”
For a year before the tour, Wiley performed in Disney’s Hoop Dee Doo Review, a dinner show at the Fort Wilderness Resort. After trying to pursue Broadway, she had the opportunity to become a Disney cast member. “I was done pursuing Broadway, and I am a huge Disney fan. I have always wanted to work there,” she explains.
As much as she loved the experience, she jumped at the opportunity to join the Les Misérables tour. Wiley submitted herself electronically and auditioned in person a few times before landing the role of Cosette, a role she loves to play.
“It is a role that is very close to my heart, and I feel passionately about her,” she says. “Her purpose is to teach Jean Valjean how to love and trust again. For me it is a very important part of the show.”
While her interactions with Valjean are an integral part of the musical, her relationship with Marius is just as important. According to Wiley, Cosette uses what she learns of love from Valjean as she shows her love to Marius. Their love in professed in the duet “A Heart Full of Love,” and it is a song Wiley looks forward to performing each night.
“I really, really love doing duets. One thing to sing about love by yourself, but with someone else it is thrilling,” she says. “I get to fall in love every night on stage. It is good for the soul.”
When Wiley takes to the stage at the Fox Theatre, she will be performing in front of sold out audiences, which is something that she and other cast members find exciting. “We feed off of the audience’s energy, and it is very exciting to be in front of a sold out audience,” she mentions.
While only a handful of limited view tickets are available for the musical at the box office or online, there may be some available through ticket resellers, and in the past some seats have opened up during the week.
