Chris Alonzo Debuts 144 Oysters to God at the Atlanta Fringe Festival

144 Oysters To God at the Atlanta Fringe Festival When his wife left him, taking their infant son, Chris Alonzo responded the only way he knew how: by entering an eating contest to try to consume 144 raw oysters in under 7 minutes. In the world premiere of 144 Oysters to God, Alonzo takes a hallucinogenic tour through the world of competitive eating and fetishism of raw oysters, all set against the backdrop of new fatherhood, impending divorce, and a journey into the unknown.

On Chris Alonzo’s solo works:
“A writer of uncommon genius.” –
“Funny; gut-bustingly so” – Austin Chronicle
“A performance rich in subtext and an effortless engagement with the audience” — Off Off Broadway Review

Note: This production contains a spectacular amount of profanity and is intended for mature audiences only

Chris Alonzo is a multi-disciplinary artist who has been performing his brand of mythology-obsessed stream-of-consciousness comedic monologues since 1998. A veteran of the New York International Fringe Festival and Frontera Fest in Austin, TX, his most recent piece (detailing the ways in which Egyptian gods threw the 2004 Presidential election) was developed as a part of his playwriting fellowship with the prestigious New York Theatre Workshop. Before leaving New York for Atlanta he served as Managing Director of Manhattan Children’s Theatre, where he wrote and directed several world-premiere originals and adaptations to acclaim from the New York Times, among others. He has been honored with grants from the James Michener Writing Center and awards and nominations from the Austin Creative Alliance and Austin Circle of Theatres, in addition to having his solo work Ditter’s Primal Scream published by Heinemann Press. An Atlanta resident since September, he currently works with Fabrefaction Theatre Company as their Marketing Consultant.
