Aurora Theatre’s Funny Fridays — club comedy performances on the square in downtown Lawrenceville — offers an expanded schedule this season with the introduction of Funny Fridays: Saturday Edition. In October, Aurora welcomes Headliner Steve Mingolla, the “Nice Guy” comic on October 19-20 at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. This will be a great weekend of comedy featuring a performer who doesn’t rely on coarse language to make the audience laugh. Also appearing will be the host of Aurora Theatre Funny Fridays, comedienne Debra Cole along with great local comics, Dulce Sloan, Caleb Synan and Dan Weeks. It will be an amazing weekend of comedy in the Aurora Studio Theatre.

About The Comedians

They call him the “The Nice Guy.” They’ve always called him that. Steve Mingolla never met a person he didn’t like. Like many comedians, Steve dropped out of college and moved to Hollywood. He landed a job as a doorman at the “World Famous” Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. It was there that he worked with, and learned from, comics such as Dennis Miller, Louie Anderson, Gary Shandling, Sam Kinison and Lenny Clark, just to name a few. After performing his set one night, Dennis Miller took Steve aside to offer him this advice, “Stevie, with my delivery I can use any language that I want and it is funny… you can’t! It just doesn’t sound right coming out of your mouth.” It was at that moment, Mingolla realized that although some comics become quite successful through the use of explicit language, his path would have to be clean. After all, he’s a nice guy.

Steve stays busy touring forty-plus weeks a year all over the U.S. He’s done numerous television commercials, syndicated radio shows, corporate events, charities, military installations in Europe, comedy clubs and civic auditoriums. He has also appeared on TNN, Comedy Central, Liars and Legends and Showtime.

Debra Cole, host of Aurora Theatre Funny Fridays since this past January, is known to Atlanta comedy enthusiasts for her wry humor and rapid-fire style.

Dulce Sloan is a former Aurora Theatre intern from Meadowcreek High, who is now an up-and-coming comedic talent recently named Most Improved Female at the Atlanta Stands Up Awards.

Caleb Synan brings an infectious energy to the stage. He is an instantly likable, candid, and conversational guy whose performance style is like a hilarious evening with your best friend.

Dan Weeks has been a staple of Atlanta’s local comedy scene since 2006. His comedy is a transcendental trip through “Happyland,” making it hard not to laugh at everything he says because he’s amiable even in angst.
