World Premiere The Minotaur Opens Synchronicity Theatre’s 15th season

Atlanta's Synchronicity TheatreSynchronicity Theatre opens their 15th season with a joint world premiere of The Minotaur. Anna Ziegler penned the modern adaptation of the Greek myth, which will perform later this year as part of a joint world premiere with Rorshach Theatre in Washington, D.C. The Minotaur is a loose adaptation of the myth in which Theseus, with the help of Ariadne, kills the Minotaur and steals Ariadne away with him, off Crete, and into an uncertain future. The play opens with a preview on Thursday, October 25, 2012 and performs at Horizon Theater in Inman Park. Rachel May, Synchronicity Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, will direct the play. The Minotaur is sponsored by Turner Voices.

Synopsis: A rabbi, a priest and a lawyer walk into a Greek myth…and so begins the story of the Minotaur, part man and part bull, who is trapped in the twisting labyrinth. His sister, Ariadne, betrays him. The hero, Theseus, aims to defeat him. In this smart and sexy modern retelling of this famous myth, playwright Anna Ziegler creates a whimsical, haunting and poignant world about how we write the stories of our own lives, and that love, just might, conquer all. By the theatre that brought you last season’s smash hit In the Next Room or the vibrator play, The Minotaur is a theatrical event not to be missed. The Minotaur has been developed at the McCarter Theatre, where it was included in McCarter’s 2010 Lab Festival, in the AracaWorks Reading Series, in the hotINK Festival, and by the Flea Theater, New Georges and the Fire Dept. It was nominated for the 2011 L. Arnold Weissberger Award. The cast includes Tony Larkin as the Minotaur, Rachel Frawley as Ariadne and Brandon Partrick as Theseus.
