Actor’s Express is delighted to have Steve Yockey return after his 2008 hit Octopus. “It’s very exciting to be producing Steve Yockey’s Wolves. I love his work and our audience has a special connection with it,” says Artistic Director, Freddie Ashley. “Steve’s writing is so smart, so imaginative — no one writes quite like him – his voice is utterly unique. I’m proud to have produced Octopus and really thrilled to bring Wolves to Atlanta.”

Wolves opens Saturday, November 10, 2012 8 p.m. curtain, and runs through December 2, 2012. The production gets off to a rollicking start with the DIRECTOR’S ROUGH CUT on November 7, a pay-what-you-want first performance, and is followed by previews on November 8 and 9, 2012.

Playwright Steve Yockey is fond of Atlanta audiences, as they are of him, and happily kicks off Wolves here. “I was an intern at Actor’s Express in 2002, really my introduction to the world of professional theatre,” says Yockey. “Freddie took a big chance producing Octopus in 2008 [a play commissioned by the Express’ previous Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis, published by Samuel French, and since produced around the world], a really wet play that connected well with Atlanta audiences. So I’m thrilled to be back for the 25th anniversary season… just in time to get the place really, really messy again.”

The National New Play Network is the country’s alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, and Wolves is its 32nd Rolling World Premiere. Steve Yockey’s Wolves will receive four productions through the Network’s Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2012/13 season. Wolves begins its Rolling World Premiere at Actor’s Express, and is followed by performances at Southern Rep (New Orleans, LA, November 14 – 25, 2012), Stray Cat Theatre (Tempe, AZ, November 30 – December 16, 2012), and Celebration Theatre (Los Angeles, CA, March 8 – May 1, 2013).

A National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere
Ben is a timid young city-dweller who freaks out when his roommate Jack brings home a big bad wolf for a one night stand. When he tries to rescue Jack, Ben sets into motion a dangerous chain of events that will alter the world as they know it. Throw in a peculiar narrator who knows more than she’s letting on, and this savagely funny fairy tale for grown-ups twists and turns toward a breathtaking climax. From the deliciously wild imagination of Steve Yockey, Atlanta native and author of the Actor’s Express hit Octopus.

Wolves features Atlanta mainstays Kate Donadio as the Narrator, who’s more involved than first appears;Joe Sikes as the Wolf, deliciously unsuspecting and creepy, all at once; Clifton Guterman as Ben, timid and imperfect in his possessiveness; and Brian Crawford as Jack, partyboy turned unwilling accomplice.

Tickets start at $24 and are available online at or by calling the box office at 404-607-SHOW (7496). Tickets for preview performances start at $15 and are on sale now, as well. <> NEW!!! “Director’s Rough Cut”: pay-what-you-want performance, November 7, 2012.
