Sunday, May 19 at 4 PM

Horizon Theatre, Blue Room

Charles McNair presents a reading of his novel Pickett’s Charge preceding the May 19, 5 PM performance of The Book Club Play. Imagine Kurt Vonnegut joining forces with Shelby Foote to write the last story of the Civil War. Welcome to Pickett’s Charge. Threadgill Pickett, the last living Confederate soldier, learns in 1964 that just one Yankee veteran lives on, in Bangor, Maine. The old rebel heads north to fight the last battle of the Civil War. Charles McNair inventively tells the story of Threadgill’s past and of his adventures on a quest through the turbulent 1960s. It’s the most ambitious Civil War fiction since Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain and as sweeping on its own terms as Gone with the Wind.
