Aurora Theatre assembles the best children’s performers in the region, bringing them to Gwinnett County for the series Aurora Children’s Playhouse. This October, Aurora Children’s Playhouse will offer a truly wonderful lineup of family entertainment with plenty of action, thrills and surprises.
Neverland beckons as Peter Pan and Wendy encounter fairies, mermaids and a ticking crocodile while trying to defeat the nefarious Captain Hook! This adorable musical will capture the imagination of little pirates and fairies everywhere. Peter Pan & Wendy is by Alyn Cardarelli and Steve Goers and was originally produced in 2010 by Emerald City Theatre in Chicago. The show is part of the series Aurora Learning Library and will be seen by over 4,000 students on weekday mornings in October. This family classic is directed by Justin Anderson with musical direction by Ann-Carol Pence, the same team that was at the helm of Aurora’s hit season opening musical Les Misérables. This is a co-production between Aurora Theatre and Synchronicity Theatre, who partnered last season for the Suzi nominated Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Ridin’ Hood. There will only be two public performances of this spectacle at Aurora Theatre on October 12 at 10 & 11:30am. This is a rare opportunity to see such an elaborate production at such a low ticket price.
Todd Key is an extraordinary talent with amazing skill in the art of juggling. A legendary fixture at Renaissance Festivals in North America as a part of the act The Zucchini Brothers, Todd brings his solo show Cirque Du Todd to Aurora Children’s Playhouse on October 19. Imagine, if you will, a man balanced upon a small, thin board, performing rope tricks, interacting with the audience, and juggling the TEN MOST DANGEROUS OBJECTS IN HISTORY, all while maintaining a banter that will keep you laughing so hard tears will come to your eyes. Designed especially for children and families, that’s Cirque Du Todd.
In what has become an Aurora Children’s Playhouse holiday tradition, the Halloween Magic Show returns for its fifth year with Atlanta magician Arthur Atsma the Saturday before Halloween, October 26. Arthur Atsma will amaze and amuse folks of all ages with a show filled with captivating sleight-of-hand magic, audience interaction and comedy. It’s not necessarily magic, but Arthur Atsma has a way of making tickets disappear, therefore reservations are strongly recommended for this popular performance.
Aurora Children’s Playhouse features puppeteers, magicians, storytellers, jugglers and musicians intended for youngsters to have their first theatrical experiences. At about 45 minutes in length, perfect for the young attention span, these lively performances are fun for the whole family. Aurora Children’s Playhouse performances are held on select Saturday mornings at 10AM unless otherwise noted.
Programming in Aurora Theatre’s 2013-2014 Aurora Children’s Playhouse is possible through generous support from Metro Waterproofing and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund.
