Out of Hand Theater proudly announces it’s newest innovation in presenting theater in unexpected places. Salome explores sex, pleasure, manipulation, violence, and discovering who one is. Charles Mee, author of Out of Hand’s hit production Big Love, takes the biblical Salome into a modern world of sexual transgression, incorporating texts from Catherine Millet, Gustave Flaubert, Camille Paglia, Annie Sprinkle, Colette and sex workers’ blogs.
Acclaimed performer and Out of Hand’s Founding Artistic Director, Maia Knispel, performs this challenging piece for small, intimate audiences in private homes across Atlanta. The performance, with a maximum of 30 guests per performance includes tea service and a reception following the show. Maia recently starred in Titus Clown, a performance she also created and works as a Clown Doctor with the Big Apple Circus’ Clown Care Unit.
Salome plays on select Friday and Saturday nights between October 19, 2013 and November 23, 2013. Tickets are extremely limited and will be release to Out of Hand Newsletter subscribers first on October 11, 2013 and to the general public the following day. Show dates and locations are available at outofhandtheater.com. Precise locations will be sent to ticket holders the day before each performance.
“We are excited to return to Charles Mee’s (re)making project after our hit site specific production of Big Love at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center in 2005. Mee’s open source writing is a perfect fit for Out of Hand’s bold, physical performance style,” remarks Co-Artistic Director Adam Fristoe. “Taking theater into private homes of Atlanta community leaders both makes for intimate, innovative performance and is the next evolution in Out of Hand’s commitment to engaging those who are unreached by traditional theater.”
