Georgia Shakespeare has announced a new managing director.
After two years at the helm of Georgia Shakespeare, Lauren Morris steps down as managing director to prepare for the upcoming birth of her first child. Effective November 22, 2013, she will be succeeded by Jennifer Bauer-Lyons, who joined Georgia Shakespeare in November 2012, after serving as Managing Producer & Director of The Apprentice Company at Horizon Theatre for six years.
Morris joined Georgia Shakespeare in November 2011, amidst the company’s successful “Save Georgia Shakespeare” Campaign, and has lead the organization through the beginning phases of developing a new business model.
“While we are disappointed to lose Lauren from our team, we are delighted for her as she and her husband take this big step in becoming parents,” said Richard Garner, Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director. “Lauren joined us at a crucial moment in our history, and her leadership has been essential to our ability to move forward. We’re grateful for that.”
After trimming its programing in 2013, Georgia Shakespeare announced earlier this year that it would expand its 2014 season to five all-new productions, including two new Shakespeare productions and a new holiday show.
“We’re coming back big and bold in 2014,” said Garner. “And as we move forward, we feel fortunate to have such a strong, well-prepared candidate in Jennifer already inside the organization.”
