ART Station, the contemporary center for the arts in the village of Stone Mountain, opens two exhibits on Saturday, January 25, 2014: a juried members’ show in the upstairs gallery continuing through March 2. There will be an opening reception for all of the artists on Saturday, January 25, from 7:00-9:30 PM. Other galleries in town will also be open that evening for an “Art Stroll.” Guests are invited to visit all of them, free of charge. The free event features light refreshments, music and door prizes. The upstairs gallery showcases the Winter members’ exhibit, juried by artist and scholar, Fahamu Pecou. Member artists of ART Station are eligible to submit work to 3-4 member exhibits annually, providing them an opportunity to have their work seen, and perhaps sold. Almost 50 artists participated in this exhibit, which includes painting, photography and sculpture.
In the downstairs gallery, continuing through March 30, is a new exhibit of paintings by local artist Pat Fiorello entitled “Take Me Away.” The show celebrates the ability of art to take us away from the here and now and transport us somewhere else. On Saturday January 25th from 7-9:30 PM, Fiorello, will be available to inscribe and sign copies of her newly released book, “Bella Italia, Italy Through the Eyes of an Artist” during the reception. The new book takes readers on a visual tour of Italy with over 80 paintings by the artist. Several of the original paintings included in the book will also be featured in the ART Station show.
“Art has the power to transcend place and time. Whether it’s an image of an enchanting faraway land or the beauty of light illuminating a simple flower, viewing art can give us a momentary escape from the stresses and reality of everyday life and take us to a world of our feelings, longings and imagination” shared Fiorello.
A popular artist and instructor, Fiorello has many local followers and students as she has taught at Spruill Center for the Arts for over 10 years. She also teaches in other locations in the U. S. and Europe each year which provides a constant source of new inspiration for her paintings.
Erin Bailey, ART Station’s Gallery Director, says, “It is an honor to exhibit this work at ART Station. Paintings are powerful triggers of both memory and imagination, and Pat Fiorello’s paintings, often of picturesque sites, are particularly evocative. They allow someone who has never been to these places to feel the atmosphere of the location, and imagine themselves there. For viewers who have traveled to some of the distant lands, the paintings will spark fond memories.”
Fiorello is a Signature Member and past President of the Georgia Watercolor Society and a member of Oil Painters of America. Her paintings have been exhibited in over 75-juried shows, over twenty one-woman shows and displayed in numerous private collections. North Light Books published her work in Splash 11: The Best of Watercolor. Examples of her artwork and her workshop schedule are available at http://www.patfiorello.com/.
