There’s a mystery to solve, with the help of the Scooby gang, you just may able to solve it. Scooby Doo Live! Musical Mysteries comes to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre to thrill audiences. With its antics and infectious music, kids of all ages will enjoy the production. In this Feature Q & A, actress Melanie Burg discusses playing Velma, the musical and more.

How would you describe the production?
Scooby Doo Live is based on the iconic cartoon. We’re bringing it to life with a high-energy production. There’s problems solving and interaction.

You play Velma in the show. How would you describe her?
We stayed true to the original. She is the brains of the operation, and she’s quirky, smart – her mind works faster than her mouth. A fun gal to play.

Is it challenging play a role that everybody knows so well?
It is a challenge. She’s very well defined and a bit over the top with the cartoon physicality. I try to bring some element of truth to it, but I have to find a balance.

How did you prepare for the role?
I watched some older cartoons.

How do you get the audience involved in the show?
We talk directly to everyone and get everyone excited. The kids are up dancing in the aisles. We encourage a lot of participation, and the whole family will get involved by helping find clues and solve the mystery of the theater ghost.

How would you describe the music?
The music is upbeat, all high-energy.

Is there one song that the audience enjoy the most?
The original Scooby Doo Theme Song. There’s a sing-a-long.

Is the show just for families or kids?
We have plenty of adults that come on their own. In one show we had a woman come by herself and she liked it so much that she came twice in one day.

What is your tag line for the show?
Bring your Scooby Snacks and come on down because it’s a fun time.
