Scene Study with Shelly McCook


Shelly McCookOut of Box Theatre is delighted to offer a scene study with professional actor and director, Shelly McCook. The class is designed for adventurous individuals at the beginner or intermediate levels of acting who love to laugh at others and themselves.

Shelly McCook has performed and directed with most of the Atlanta professional theatres including the Alliance, Horizon, Aurora, 7 Stages, Theatrical Outfit, Georgia Ensemble, Actors Express and Stage Door Players. She had a long-time association with Theatre in the Square having played such iconic roles as Louise in Always Patsy Cline, the title role of Sylvia, and June in Smoke on The Mountain and Sanders’ Family Christmas over the course of a decade. She currently holds nearly 20 years’ experience directing and teaching in addition to her substantial background performing on stage, having taught in public and private schools. Shelly has been named Best Actress in publications such as: Atlanta Magazine, Creative Loafing, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. 

In the Scene Study class, students will develop and improve acting technique, have the opportunity to be directed and learn to make strong vocal, physical and emotional choices.  In the class students will study and analyze scenes, sketches and routines to identify the characteristics of comedy, explore the truth in comedy by applying the basics of character development, learn to recognize different styles of comedy and rehearse and perform short comedy scenes and 10 minute plays to perform for an invited audience on September 13th.

Class will be held on Wednesdays beginning August 13th from 7:30-9:30 for five weeks. There will be tech rehearsals during the day on Saturday, September 13th and a public performance for invited guests that evening in the Out of Box Theatre.  The cost for this class, including performance is $200.  You may register online at or call 678-653-4605.
