RISING SAGE THEATRE is pleased to present the final production of the 2014 season. CHAINZ/BROKEN is the world premiere of two one-act plays written by Paris Crayton III. CHAINZ directed by Eric J. Little, examines what it is to be a black man in an unfair society. It centers around four men who end up in a holding cell at a local police station after a protest of a slain teen goes sour. These men learn more about each other and themselves as the night progresses and are left with the question… are we really free? BROKEN directed by Mia Kristin Smith, deals with the aftermath of losing a child to gun violence. Based on true stories, this production focuses on five women who have all experienced the unfortunate fate of losing a child and how they cope with the circumstances.
We anticipate a much public interest in this production because the themes addressed in this production so closely touch on the political, social, economic, and emotional issues occurring with recent events in Ferguson, Missouri. As part of our commitment to use artistic expression to promote positive activism, we will be holding community talkback sessions to facilitate healthy dialogue about these issues.
Various community leaders will moderate the talkback sessions following each show. The moderators will include Attorney Mawuli Davis (Davis Bozeman Law Firm), Jarrod Grant (Let Us Make Man), and many others.
Selected talkback sessions will be available via video stream. In addition, a major radio station KISS 104.1 FM, Atlanta’s Best R&B has agreed to partner with us to raise awareness of Chainz/Broken and the community talkback sessions. Furthermore, we would like to challenge other organizations to attend the production and participate in the talkback to contribute to this important community dialogue.
