StinkyKids the Musical Combines Laughs and Lessons at Aurora

The perfect combination of entertainment and education, StinkyKids the Musical brings the humor of childlike innocence to Aurora Theatre, October 8-24, 2014. Based on the book series created by Atlanta mom Britt Menzies, the StinkyKids characters come alive from the page to the stage, where the “little stinkers” learn to make the right choices through childhood mistakes, all while attempting to follow the motto, “always be a good leader.” Co-produced with Synchronicity Theatre and co-directed by Jaclyn Hofmann and Justin Anderson, StinkyKids of all ages are invited to join the misadventures of Britt, Max, Skye, Jen, Johnny and Billy for this Theatre for Young Audiences performance.

“To engage today’s youth; the key is to incorporate a mix of entertainment and education. This helps children develop positive habits that actively teach the differences between right and wrong,” said Anthony Rodriguez, Producing Artistic Director. “Giving children exposure to these lessons early on, shape their thought processes for the future. Hopefully, we are teaching students the importance of being good citizens and community members.

When Britt ignores her parents’ request to not fall asleep with gum in her mouth, she wakes up in the stickiest of situations, literally. Much to her dismay, an epic wad of gum is stuck in her hair! With plans to visit Captain Happy’s Jumpy-Fun-Super-Bouncy Indoor Place, her faithful friends come to the rescue. Will it be before her parents find out? Faced with simple decisions of right or wrong, Britt and friends discover the perils of childhood, all while having fun together.

In addition to the performance, school groups will enjoy a pre- and post-show discussion, as well as access to an extensive study guide, reinforcing the educational content viewed during the show. StinkyKids the Musical contains multiple direct connections to Common Core Georgia Performance Standards, vital for student achievement and directly related to the state’s core curriculum. As a bonus, Menzies will be present at each performance, available for questions and discussions!
