This smart retelling bears the double-edged sword of the 21st century: modern technology both advances and complicates the story, and the traditional chorus is imagined as Western society stereotypes—a priest, a rabbi, and a lawyer (and yes, they tell a “walk into a bar” joke). As the characters struggle to assert their agency against the confines of a story whose ending was written long ago, the ever-looming darkness of a future unknown simultaneously fights to keep them in their place. The Minotaur balances witty vernacular and beautiful narrative with a stirring and touching story, creating a refreshingly intimate theatrical experience.
