Aurora Theatre is giving patrons what they have been asking for—more holiday programing. In addition to the perennial favorite one-man A Christmas Carol, featuring Anthony P. Rodriguez, Aurora adds a hilariously irreverent one-woman show, The 12 Dates of Christmas. These shows will run for a limited 3-week engagement December 5-22 in repertory. Tickets are $15 to each show. Showtimes vary. See both shows with the Combo Ticket for only $25. The Combo Ticket is good for any combination of 2 shows you choose. The holidays are twice as nice when you get two tickets for one low price.
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
Anthony P. Rodriguez returns for a seventh year with his compelling solo performance of the holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. Similar to the way Charles Dickens performed his stories by the fireside in Victorian England, Mr. Rodriguez uses the classic art of storytelling to bring life to Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Jacob Marley and each astonishing ghost found in the most beloved Christmas story of all time. Although a few special theatrical effects have been added, this rendition captures the true spirit of Christmas—the joy of giving; as the intimate, 90-seat, Peach State Federal Credit Union Studio is transformed into Mr. Dickens’ parlor. The story is adapted for the stage and directed by Tony Brown. Aurora Theatre will offer school groups the opportunity to enjoy this holiday classic. Schools may either visit Aurora Theatre or book a special touring version.
The 12 Dates of Christmas
The 12 Dates of Christmas by Ginna Hoben follows the misadventures of the aptly named leading character for a holiday comedy, Mary. While watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Mary sees her fiancé kiss another woman on national TV! Over the next year, Mary is set up, hooked up, strung up, and fed up as she stumbles back into the dating scene. Jaclyn Hofmann stars in this delicious one-woman show directed by Kelly Criss. Originally written and performed by actress/playwright Ginna Hoben at American Shakespeare Centre in Staunton Va., 12 Dates makes it’s Georgia Premiere.
Aurora Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director Anthony Rodriguez, “With the popularity of movies like A Christmas Story and Elf along with wildly popular plays like the The Santaland Dairies, it’s nice to be able to offer patrons a sharp and slightly more adult take on the holidays with The 12 Dates of Christmas.” He goes on to talk about A Christmas Carol, “I cherish the relationships we’ve created with our patrons. A Christmas Carol gives me the opportunity to fully engage with our audience in a shared theatrical experience. If you’ve never seen the show or have visited all 6 years, odds are you’ve been hugged, kissed, sat on, glittered, Scrooged or all of the above.”
Holiday Programming in Aurora Theatre’s Peach State Federal Credit Union Studio is made possible through generous support from BrandBank, BrandMortgage, the Lawrenceville Woman’s Club and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund.
