Per Festival’s tradition, the 20 productions were selected via random, unjuried lottery — literally pulled out of a hat — from a pool of over 40 submissions from 9 different states. This year’s lineup, with many productions based right here in the Atlanta area, features 8 companies returning for their second and in some cases third trip to the festival. This year’s venues, all located in East Atlanta, include 7 Stages (returning as the Festival’s headquarters), the Highland Ballroom, the Montessori In Town and the Marianna event space at Wrecking Bar Brewpub.
“We were overwhelmed to see so many companies from all over the country submitting this year, especially with so many familiar faces among them,” says Festival Executive Director Diana Brown. “We think it shows that our mission of building a community is really starting to take hold. People know we’re a safe, fun place to just go for it and try something new and awesome in front of a supportive crowd.”
The new lineup will be celebrated, with previews from some of this year’s performers, at the Fringe’s annual Reveal Party. This year’s celebration will take place at Mary’s in East Atlanta Village on Thursday February 26 (featured artists TBA.) Submissions remain open for Fringe Audio, AFF’s podcasting network that will stream free audio performances throughout the festival, can can be made via AtlantaFringe.org.
